Homebuilding & Renovating Masterclass 2nd November 2024

Protek Director Vicky Read  will be hosting a Masterclass Session at the Homebuilding & Renovating Show. This session, titled Why Insurance & Warranties are must-haves on a self build project is designed for anyone undertaking a self build, renovation or extension project.  Vicky will be looking at the types of risks self builders and home renovators are confronted with all the time. She will share images of the types of claims that can occur on these sites.

During the masterclass, we will explain why insurance & warranties are must-haves on a self build or extension/renovation project. The session will fully detail the insurance and risk management product solutions that are available to you. Ultimately it will better prepare you to protect your finances in the event of a loss, damage or injury occurring on your site.

Manage your structural warranty journey online

This fantastic new feature, which has been built specifically for our structural warranty customers, became fully operational on the 1st May 2023 . It allows customers to view and manage their structural warranty online, in real time.

Following each inspection, the inspection report and development tracker will be viewable online. The tracker will highlight any issues arising which may require additional information.  You will then be able to upload the requested evidence, documents or commissioning certificates directly to your tracker. This will make it easy for you to see what is required and very simple for the auditor to close out any items arising. 

The status of any information you have submitted will then be viewable in real time. You will be able to track the progress of your policy from purchase right through to completion of the project.

Protek will continue to email copies of your reports and development tracker as normal. However, we will be encouraging our customers to make the most of the new feature. Going forward we ask that customers submit any requested evidence by uploading the files via their online portal going forward.

Lloyds Banking Group has declared Protek Warranty as acceptable for its lending purposes, and added Protek Warranty into its Council of Mortgage Lenders’ (CML) handbook, entry part 2, item 6.7.1. The CML handbook provides comprehensive instructions for conveyancers acting on behalf of lenders in residential conveyancing transactions.

Protek, a trading style of Lucas Fettes Limited, provides structural warranties to the UK house building, construction and self build sectors.

A lead economist is predicting an upturn in the self build market, despite new figures showing minimal growth in the number of planning applications for new self build homes in 2015.

Just under 18,000 were submitted last year, 30 per cent below the historic 2010 peak figure. The latest data from construction industry analysts Barbour ABI also indicates that self build planning applications in 2015 were the second lowest for eight years, with only 2014 faring worse. These figures are more surprising considering the apparent turn-around over the last two years within the housing market.
